My Hilarious, Heartbreaking, Outrageous Life by Joel Creasey
Since being introduced to the gorgeous Joel Creasey three years ago by my friend and our comedy festival guru, the fabulous Tracey, I have been a huge fan. After my first show with Joel, I was hooked and loved him so much that I walked out and purchased tickets for another show.
A few weeks ago while selling off my old wardrobe at the Campbellwell market with my beautiful friend and sister in law, the gorgeous Rosie, I saw she had Joel's book and was going to sell it. Not on my shift!!! That book went straight into my bag, and I am so happy it did.
On a recent holiday in Bali, again with Rosie and my husband Simon and brother Clinton, I read the book while sitting next to the pool. Lucky the book is called "Thirsty" as Simon managed to spill "Bintang" over it, but it was saved so I could continue the journey of Joel.
I have never read a book that I have wanted to share so many stories and funny lines. I am sure Simon, Clint and Rosie were sick of me by the end and were happy when I finished the book.
Joel inspired me beyond words in this book. So many people think that fame and success come naturally, but as many of us know, it comes with hard work and self-belief, two things Joel did and had.
After seeing Joel Creasey perform one night, the late Joan Rivers invited him to open for her last Broadway shows. ‘He’s a ******* star! I love him!’ she said.
Joel worked in his parent's McDonald's store part-time while at school and becoming a superstar comedian. He was always on stage at school and was always a leader (any fashionista will love his school magazine story) until he discovered a love for comedy. Without giving too much away, Joel and his friends used to write on the pavement with chalk about his shows trying to entice people to come in, for free. Joel always knew he was a "fame whore" and never wavered from this belief.
For a young man, I loved his honesty and wit while reading the book. It was like being at a Joel Creasey show! But what I also loved was Joel's love and appreciation for his parents, especially his mum.
A must-read book for all Joel Creasey fans.
