Superwoman Update – What Is Our Rockstar Up To Now?

Superwoman Update – What Is Our Rockstar Up To Now?

Kerryn is the superwoman from "Girls With Hammers" I wrote about last year, and since then I have remained in touch with Kerryn and her partner Nicky.  What I have discovered is that she is like an onion; there are so many beautiful layers, and as you can see by the images below, life is always fun with Kerryn.

I asked Kerryn to write about herself, but as she is so humble, Kerryn found this difficult, so I went to the top and asked Kerryn's partner Nicky to write the article about the layers, which she has kindly written below.

There is a uniqueness about Kerryn that I’m yet to put my finger on.  It’s something most people feel when they’re around her, as she has a way of drawing you in and making you feel safe, heard and valued.  She wears her heart on her sleeve, is fiercely loyal and will leave no doubt in your mind where she stands on any issue.

Kerryn has love for all animals.

Kerryn has love for all animals.

An advocate for animals, kindness and the planet, her frankness can at times land her in hot water, but no one can doubt her commitment to making a difference.  Whether through her songs, speaking or work, she lives her mantra “If we can make a difference, why wouldn’t we?”.

Led by Kerryn, the inaugural Girls With Hammers women’s empowerment conference in October 2018 flew by in a blur of laughter, tears, incredible energy and a coming together of women with shared experiences and renewed hope for the future.  With a line-up of inspirational speakers, the hilarious Jean Kittson as keynote and Kerryn as MC, it was a day I won’t forget in a very long time.

Since then Kerryn has not only been planning the next steps for Girls with Hammers but has flown straight into the busiest period of the year for her not for profit One Planet Classrooms (OPC).  OPC provides sponsorship for underprivileged children in developing countries to access education, and also coordinates projects including clean water supplies, women’s empowerment and sustainability projects and assistance to communities and families in need.

With over 180 children sponsored across 24 different schools all over Uganda, there are endless calls, emails and messages to ensure every child’s money is sent where it needs to go.  Extra purchases are directed to the right people; photos are taken and posted, letters written and sent, books kept up to date and every week, more needy children are submitted to the list of those who need OPC’s help.

The hours upon hours Kerryn gives to this cause is incredible.  Often exhausted to the point of tears, she is driven on by her massive heart, passion and innate desire to make a difference.

Kerryn is without a doubt the most incredible person I know.   She hopes to get to Africa this year to meet with some of the children and schools supported by OPC and see first-hand the difference being made, and to come back with stories, photos and experiences to share.

Kerryn spoke at the Hero Round Table in Yarram on March 2nd, 2019 and continues to work on various projects including her podcast with Campbell Remess of the incredible Project 365 by Campbell (check him out, one amazing kid), writing, speaking, planning Girls With Hammers conferences, retreats and the ongoing and expanding work of OPC.  All this in addition to consulting, mentoring and training individuals and organisations on anything from behaviour management to public speaking to getting projects off the ground.  The thought of all that leaves me exhausted!

I feel so lucky to have Kerryn in my life; she is a fantastic step parent to our children, makes me laugh every day, and has opened my world and shown me the incredible things that anyone, including me, can do if they want to.

Kerryn and Nicky

I had always dreamt of a Prince Charming coming to sweep me off my feet, who would’ve thought my Prince would end up being a Superwoman,  (but that’s a whole other story!)

Love Nicky xx

One Planet Classroom (OPC) needs our support.  If you can raise or spare $200, that is the total cost to sponsor a child for a full 12 months education.  Can you imagine the difference our community can make for these children?

Thank you Nicky for your article on Kerryn. I feel so blessed to have you and Kerryn on the Cazinc team. But knowing both of you, what you have said about Kerryn above is about you also. You are a wonderful team and I love you both.
