What Is The Australian Movie We Have Waited For?
You may have seen the stage show and read the book, but now you can see the movie so you can grab some girlfriends, oh and maybe ice creams or cocktails and take a journey back to the 1950's.
Ladies In Black is a beautiful story of love, friendship and growing up in the 1950's. The movie is set at a prestigious Sydney department store in 1959 where Lisa Miles (Angourie Rice) is fresh out of high school and very naive, until she meets and works with the "Ladies In Black," her older colleagues, who become friends. The ladies include unlucky-in-love Fay (Rachael Taylor) and poised Hungarian immigrant Magda (Julia Ormond). Exposed to the wider world gradually being brought to the city by Magda, her husband Stefan (Vincent Perez), Rudi (Ryan Corr) and other 'new Australians', Lisa and Fay come to embrace this exciting new culture.
Co-starring Susie Porter, Shane Jacobson, Nicholas Hammond and Noni Hazlehurst, the movie is a perfectly timed reflection on Australia's very own coming-of-age.
If the movie is as good as the stage show, or the book, I have a hunch you will love it.
Ladies In Black opens in season on September 20, but Nova Cinema in Carlton is holding a Gala event on Friday 14th September. Book here.
