Why Eating This Food Will Instantly Improve Your Mood

Chia seeds are a tiny, delicious and versatile food that can be utilised in nearly every meal.  Chia seeds are a superfood loved by many for a great reason, but did you know they can make you feel naturally happier instantly!

 

What are chia seeds?

Chia seeds can be black or white and come from a member of the mint family, the plant Salvia Hispanics, which originated in Central and South America.  They can be eaten raw or added to almost any meal and have become one of the widest known superfoods, loaded with nutrients which can benefit both your body and brain. The seeds can aid with weight loss, are a great egg replacer for vegans and a refilled with antioxidants. But one of the lesser-known benefits of chia seeds is their ability to give you that much-needed happiness boost. 

So, what makes this plant such a serotonin saviour?

The omega-3 fatty acids in chia seeds can change the way you think by altering the brain’s signals. It is believed to help battle depression and anxiety but also our memory. Our minds need good fats to help continually grow and be healthy. Of all the body parts, it’s the brain that needs these healthy fats the most. Our brains are especially sensitive to our omega-3 levels, so that any form of deficiency can lead to memory loss and ageing, but also to depression and anxiety.  Omega-3 acids can change the structure of the membranes that surround the cells in the brain and body thus helping them with their ability to function.

Chia seeds contain more than thirty per cent essential fatty acids, meaning they are the superior choice for happiness hit, more so than other foods such as salmon and walnuts. So, if you are feeling down and that’s stopping you from having happiness and vitality, try having four tablespoons of chia seeds a day, which can be achieved by enjoying a chia seed pudding or adding chia seeds to your smoothie in the morning.  Add them to your protein balls, to salads, casseroles, anything you like.

However, chia seeds are not just right for your brain; this miracle plant is rich in fibre, protein and minerals. They can add to a perfect workout and diet, which can lead to extra weight loss.  Chia seeds are naturally high in calcium, magnesium, and protein, meaning it will help your bones to be stronger too!

Studies show that consuming chia seed can help to reduce your amount of visceral fat (belly fat tissue), which can lead to glucose intolerance Type 2 diabetes and slow down your metabolism.  The amount of protein in chia seeds also helps your body to gain muscle and lose the extra fat.
