To Bikini Or Not Bikini?

To Bikini Or Not Bikini?

Life's little pleasures.  Bubbles, book and bikini by the pool.

Having just returned from a holiday in Port Douglas, it was interesting to receive comments from a post of me in bikini's which my husband put on Facebook.  Some people wrote to me questioning whether I am too old to wear a bikini.

To my relief, I also received many comments stating how fabulous it is that I still wear a bikini at 51.

So that is when I decided to raise the question, when are you too old to wear a bikini?

My beautiful mother wore a bikini well into her 50's, our gorgeous grandma Rose still rocks the bikini in her 60's, and stunning Helen Mirren looks gorgeous in her bikini at 62.

Last year after travelling to Italy I was inspired to write an article on the beautiful women, many of them grandmas, who confidently wore their bikinis (no matter what their size or shape) to the beach each day.

Women do come in all shapes and sizes and many of us have the stunning scars of motherhood, something we should be proud of rather than hiding away.  My tummy gave me the greatest gift in the world any woman can receive, four gorgeous children.  I love my tummy, even though it isn't flat like it used to be and never will be again as I enjoy life, especially food and wine (in moderation), something I will never give up for the sake of a flat tummy.

Bikini or not, I think it should be a personal choice, so wear them proudly, but does this apply to everyone?

So, when do you think is a great time to hang up the bikini?

Or are you like me and think as long as we have the right size for our shape, we can go on like gorgeous women, such as my Mum, Rose, Helen and the Italian women and enjoy our bikinis until we decide it is time to hang them up?
