Learning The Art Of Ageing Gracefully

Learning The Art Of Ageing Gracefully

I have great respect for inspirational women, such as Dames Helen Mirren and Judith Dench, who keep on enjoying life as they mature and don’t make their age an issue.

On Friday I caught up with a beautiful, fun, fabulous and full of life friend, Margo.  I first met Margo over ten years ago when I enrolled my husband Simon and I into a three-hour meditation workshop.  Margo and I hit it off straight away and over the years I have enjoyed some fantastic times with her, including a life-changing meditation retreat in Bali.

While living in the Macedon Ranges, I loved seeing her at the gym lifting weights at 6 am. Lunching together on Friday was brilliant.  We laughed so much and didn’t draw breath as we both had so many fun and fabulous stories to share.

What I love about Margo is her passion for life, how she maintains a great balance and embraces what life has to offer.  At 64, she has the energy of someone in their twenties.

Turning 51 this month, I feel younger and happier than what I did in my youth.  I loved my 40’s but I am enjoying my 50’s even more.  Margo said to me “Wait until you are 60, it’s fabulous.”

So why is life so liberating as we mature?

I think that over the years both of us have discovered acceptance.

We discussed how we don’t worry like we used to and don’t sweat the small stuff.  We make better lifestyle choices with the way we think, eat and act.  But the primary focus was on acceptance.  We enjoy being who we are, wrinkles, cellulite and all.  We focus more on maintaining a healthy body and mind rather than looks.  We keep growing and discovering what life has to offer and enjoying all the moments.

Margo is exceptionally positive about life.  She is a woman I could spend five hours chatting with and it would feel like five minutes.  She is balanced mentally, spiritually, physically and emotionally. When I spend time with someone so positive as Margo, I always leave knowing I can conquer anything.

I am pleased to announce that Margo would like to become a regular writer of Cazinc, sharing stories of her life, travels and what work she is doing with women.  The team at Cazinc feel blessed to have Margo on board.
