A Must-Listen Podcast For Parents And Teenagers

A Must-Listen Podcast For Parents And Teenagers

Last week I received a phone call from the lovely Sacha Kaluri who has written many of our parenting articles.  Together with her friend Sonya Karras, they have become two of Australia’s most sought-after motivational speakers, presenting to school groups, parents, corporate companies, government agencies and not-for-profit organisations. After releasing their first book, The Two Worlds of Your Teenager, which sold out twice in its first print runs before it hit the stores, Sonya and Sacha knew there was a demand and hunger for parents to gain as much knowledge as possible. So, they connected with PodcastOneAu and have launched a pod cast together.

The podcasts are aimed at parents and teenagers to help them communicate with each other, understand one another and talk about the real issues of life.

They call themselves “The Door Bitch and the Entrepreneur”.  Wondering where the name comes from?  Sonya, with a background in nightclubs, is the Door Bitch and Sacha, with a business background, is the Entrepreneur.

Parents wanted to know about drugs, alcohol, sex, teenage relationships, bullying, social media, career choices, risk-taking behaviours and how to start the conversations around these topics.  Open discussions are what the Door Bitch and the Entrepreneur do best, and they know how to speak the language of teenagers, as well as that of the parents. So, they created not just one, but two podcasts.

The "Secret Life of Teens" podcast is aimed at parents and "Sex, Drugs and Relationships" podcast is specifically for teenagers. Every episode faces a different challenge a teen can have, and Sonya and Sacha get down and talk about the nitty-gritty of all the issues, giving real tips and strategies on how to navigate through these tough times from both sides.

Through these podcasts they aim to bridge the communication gap between parents and teenagers, building lifelong positive and healthy relationships, just at a time when it is usual for teenagers to pull away while their hormones are racing, and they are challenging expectations and discovering themselves.  By parents staying connected and informed, they create a safe and comfortable environment for their teenagers, giving them support and helping them to bounce back when life hits them with unexpected results or they make the wrong choices. Teenagers, knowing their parents are informed and understanding, feel safer talking about things with them and know that they are supported.

If you want quality, informative, and of course entertaining, content that makes you feel confident to start talking and feeling like you are armed with knowledge and not like a parent that has no clue, then this series is for you. Then once you have listened to it tell your teenager they have their own version just for them.

It's not preachy, it's just raw, real and even lets you laugh at the crazy aspects of life, love and family.

Sonya and Sacha were also grand finalists for the 2017 “Ausmumpreneur Awards” in two categories - "Making a Difference in Business Awards" and "The People’s Choice Awards."

For two years running, they have also been the official Australian ambassadors for the United Nations New York Women's Entrepreneurship Day.  Read how this dynamic duo came together here.
