Would You Skydive?

Would You Skydive?

How would you like to experience flying above the clouds, 15,000ft above ground?

As most of you know, I am afraid of heights.  It is a fear I have tried to face many times over the years.  When I turned 40, I climbed the Sydney Harbour Bridge.  Last year when Simon and I travelled to Italy, I climbed to the top of many buildings, where everyone laughed at me standing back to hold the structure up while Simon stood out near the ledge.

Simon has always dreamed of flying, so I purchased a skydiving experience for his 50th birthday in November last year. I received the “really?” comment when he opened his present;  he wanted to know why we would want to jump out of a perfectly good plane?

To my surprise, as you can see by the photos and video below, I was completely relaxed during dive.

We experienced the ultimate thrill of freefalling above and through the clouds for 60 seconds, then floating under the canopy of the parachute for 4-5 minutes over Melbourne and St Kilda Beach with Skydive Melbourne.

We arrived at the office an hour before take off, where we were put into our harnesses and talked through the experience. Then we had 20-minute bus ride to Moorabbin airport to meet the plane.  I loved the plane trip also as the views over the city and then over the clouds were beautiful.

Next thing I knew was my gorgeous “goggles” were on (such a fashion statement, not!) and the door opened.  I was surprised how excited I was.

Within a minute I was sitting on the edge of a plane, head leaning back into Kevin and then we were off, freefalling into the clouds.  BRILLIANT.

I was shocked while watching the video afterwards to see that I let go of the harness while free falling, spreading my arms out, only being held up by a harness 15,000m above ground.  It scared me more watching the video than when I was in the air.

Did the dive push me out of my boundaries?  If I said no I would be lying, but I found the whole experience exhilarating and surreal.  I had a fantastic instructor, Kevin, who made me feel entirely at ease and created a fun experience.

Watch and enjoy and laugh at my video below.  I do recommend everyone should go skydiving but maybe book a facial afterwards to put your face skin back together.

I don’t ever want to die wondering, and now I can tick the skydive off the bucket list.  Even Mr. “why are we jumping out of a perfectly good plane” loved every moment of the experience.

I hope you enjoyed my skydive as much as I did.

Have you skydived?  If so, would you go again?
