Logomania - My Obsession With Branded Tees
When Maria Grazia Chiuri debuted her first collection for Dior in 2017, she sure made a statement with the t-shirt that had everybody talking. The new creative director sent a white graphic tee reading "We Should All Be Feminists" down the runway — a timely statement for not only the ongoing feminist movement but also Chiuri's new role as the first female designer to ever take the reins at Dior. And after making waves on the runway, it's no surprise that the t-shirt is now making waves in real life too - Harpers Bazaar.
Since the "We Should All Be Feminists" tee made a splash, we have witnessed an onslaught of Logomania, not only in tees but jackets, bags and many accessories. But the tees have made a huge statement, especially with celebrities.
Years ago you would never have caught me wearing a band t-shirt, let alone one with a statement, but this season I have had a lot of fun, playing the "cougar" chick wearing these tees. They are a fabulous item to have during autumn as you can style with a funky jacket or a blazer over jeans or culottes for the cooler mornings and nights.
Branded tees are sold everywhere, so try to shop around and have some fun, make them a statement about you. Like when I went into the retro shop in Melbourne with my son James. I loved the band tees, and of course being a lover of INXS, it had to be my first choice. But I must admit I did buy a "Beastie Boys" tee also. Hey, why not!!
They come in a variety of styles, colours and prices, from $90 down to $20, so before you buy, I would like you to shop around.
Why have I become so obsessed with them?
Because they are an effortlessly cool style. A quick throw on with jeans and funky boots with a leather jacket for a rock chic style, or a blazer and jeans for a casual look, or head out to work with a suit. Check out American designer Anine Bing's styles below.
But remember, try to be original and wear a tee to suit you and know when it's time to give up the trend.
Here are some of my fun tees you might like.
