Look Who Attended A Fashion Show
At a time when we are witnessing an all-time low on support for the Royals, with most Australians in favour of becoming a republic, we have witnessed a Royal first with the Queen attending a fashion show.
Sitting front row next to American Vogue Editor, Dame Anna Wintour, the 91-year-old Queen made an unusual surprise appearance at designer Richard Quinn's show on the last day of London Fashion Week, where she appeared quite jubilant and excited to be a part of the events.
Even though the pair seemed to get along famously, there has been much controversy over Anna Wintour not showing respect to the Monarchy by wearing her trademark sunglasses during the event. All over social media, including Twitter, many slammed Anna by saying she should have removed her sunglasses and shown respect for the real Queen. But according to Wintour, these glasses serve a purpose.
“They are seriously useful. I can sit in a show, and if I am bored out of my mind, nobody will notice. At this point, they have become, really, armour,” she said in an interview on 60 minutes, as was reported by The Cut.
It’s a way for Wintour to conceal her emotions at runway shows.
“Anna Wintour looking ridiculous as usual – sunglasses indoors?! At least the Queen knows how to dress properly for any occasion,” one commenter wrote on Twitter.
But even this didn't seem to phase the Queen, who went on to present an award to recognise the excellence of British design.
"As a tribute to the industry, and as my legacy to all those who have contributed to British fashion, I would like to present this award for new, young talent," - Queen Elizabeth
The Queen looked stunning in her Angela Kelly duck egg blue tweed dress and jacket detailed with tiny aquamarine Swarovski crystals set off by formal black gloves. Further reading here.
