The Hype Behind The Red Shoe
Red is a colour that represents strength, power and energy and is associated with wealth, war and fertility, but red shoes speak Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz to me!
For years I owned my own Stuart Weitzman patent leather "Dorothy" shoes, which I loved. They always made me feel special when I wore them and so I enjoyed seeing Julie Bishop wear her stunning red satin bejewelled heel shoes on the day she resigned as foreign minister. She stood out amongst the sea of black shoes, which is how I felt when I wore my beautiful red shoes.
Julie wore the same red shoes when she arrived at a press conference back in August when Malcolm Turnbull lost the prime ministership.
"When in doubt wear red."
- Julia Bishop, in an exclusive interview with Fairfax Media.
"Red is one of my favourite colours. It evokes power, passion and fashion. In power, I always noted that many nations have red in their flags and that's because it symbolises courage and freedom. Passion, well, you know, red hearts, red roses. And fashion - that's why they call it a red carpet - and red lipstick, red nail polish, red shoes."
Julie was surprised that so many people read so much into her wearing the brightly coloured shoes. Her inspiration was the red shoe emoji, which she has been a big fan of (I love how down to earth Julie is). Many people saw her style choice as a statement of women's empowerment, which is what the symbol of the red emoji is intended to represent, so much so that in the days that followed the Liberal women also took to wearing red.
Julie loves to step out of the square, another reason I admire her.
Do you love wearing red shoes?
Do you feel like they are magical like Dorothy's shoes in the Wizard Of Oz?
