Do You Want To Become More Confident?
Just about everyone believes that being confident in yourself will lead to a happy and successful life. I saw this demonstrated in my work as a professional Life Coach, as one of the common reasons clients came to see me was that they were seeking self-confidence. While no one can make anyone confident, as it has to come from within, there is advice that has helped.
Here are three tips that assisted my clients to become more confident.
Envision Your Success
A simple process, yet one that can be very effective. When you are about to do something difficult or something that makes you nervous, practice envisioning you being successful at this task. Close your eyes and imagine the upcoming situation and see yourself succeeding at it. Play the scene over again and again in your head. This may seem silly, but it does in fact work for many people as you are more likely to act confidently when the nerve-wracking moment arrives as you have seen it work out several times in your mind already.
Maintain A Positive Attitude About Yourself
The first tip will help you for a particular situation, but how do you become more confident in general every day?
The most essential thing is for you to be positive about yourself. Don’t talk down to yourself in your inner-monologue. Try to see the positive side to your life and the successes you have already had, no matter how small they may be. Don’t worry over mistakes you have made but look at them positively as something you can learn from. Most importantly, make sure you give yourself credit for everything you do well, again no matter how big or small they may be.
Surround Yourself With Positive People
This tip is also vitally important but can be quite hard to follow through with; avoid overly negative people or people who unfairly criticise you. Surround yourself with those who can see the value in you and what you are aiming for. Nothing takes the wind from your sails more when you are racing along with confidence than a negative comment from a friend, family member or colleague. The seeds of self-doubt sprout and you start to question yourself and your abilities. Although it may be difficult, you will need to avoid these people until you know that their comments will no longer affect your confidence.
