What I Loved About The Italian Women?
Travelling Italy in August was a fabulous time to socialize with the local Italian families on the beach as they were on holidays also.
We were in awe watching them gather together, from grandparents to children, playing cards, Barbie dolls and reading books amongst all the swimming and regular beach activities.
I adored the fact that Italian women are extremely comfortable with who we are, whatever shape and size. I loved the grandmothers wearing bikinis; it's fabulous. The best part was they were contented wearing them. They were beautiful and confident.
I loved that it doesn't matter what age, shape or size you are, you are not stared at, judged or made to feel embarrassed. All bodies should wear bikinis.
The over 50 women in Italy are so free spirited and age-positive, wearing any bikini they liked, being self-assured in their skins. I also witnessed this spirit with the young girls only wearing bather bottoms. These girls were playing, singing and dancing on the beach. They were delightful to watch. I had a huge smile watching them all. Moments I will always cherish.
Women of all ages not only wear bikini's, but they also go topless without anyone taking a second look. It's brilliant to see, women walking around with their heads held high, nothing is a big deal to them.
Food is the essence of Italian life, all they do is eat! They take cooking very seriously, and rightly so. Whether it's a beautiful bowl of homemade pasta, delicious pizza and the fresh fruit and vegetables, they love to eat. It is a celebration of life. So, of course, they are going to build beautiful bodies.
Women have different bodies, no matter what ethnicity they are, but Italian women have some of the most voluptuous. They have stunning curves that keep going which they love showing off.
It has hurt me over the years working as a stylist to know how many Australian women are ashamed of their bodies.
No matter what size or shape, our bodies are something to be celebrated, not be ashamed. Our bodies are our temples; they supply us with so many beautiful things, including our children.
So how about we become confident and comfortable with the Italian women, loving who we are, which to them it’s not even a second thought; it’s just a way of life? Let's not hide or cover-up. Let's be proud of our bodies and not afraid to show it.
I have traveled home with a new zest, a love of my beautiful curves, a tummy that gave me four gorgeous children a love of food, wine, and life.
