Meet A Fashion Designer With An Eye For Effortless Casual Style
I was thrilled to spend time with fashion designer of 10 years, Julian this week. Julian's two brands are Texas Johnny and DEA, and Julian owns two boutiques, one in Napier Street, Essendon and 254 Whitehorse Road, Balwyn.
When I met Julian last week, I instantly fell in love with his passion for the industry. Julian has a love for every style he creates and for every woman he styles. It was refreshing to be styled by someone who knew what they were talking about. A bonus was there are many styles to suit women over 30 and for over 50's like moi.
While creating, Julian always thinks versatility for women. He showed me a gorgeous leather jacket, which has stretch at the side for "bloating" days, it can be worn as a vest, cropped by removing the belt, which can also be an accessory piece for your wardrobe.
We don't mind purchasing investment pieces when you can wear them several different ways.
Julian noticed a change in fashion when the GFC hit us. Men and women went back to basics, survival buying of jeans and tees, but now we want a point of difference with our styles.
During the GFC period, if we had a special event, or planned a day out to spring racing, we would use what we had in our wardrobes, mismatching items and borrowing from friends. We just went to the event not worried about style or fashion. Now we would splurge on a dress or invest for the event.
I love boutique shopping and what I loved about Julian and witness in many stores are the following:
Julian allows VIP clients to take items home and if they like it, they come back and pay for it. If not, they can return the item. (I saw this happen today with a client, who wasn't feeling very well. A hug from gorgeous Julian made her smile and felt special).
Investment pieces are exclusive. With leather items (all beautiful from Italy), Julian only manufactures 30 pieces for each style, compared to large department stores where over 30,000 of the same products are made.
3. Larger Sizes
It is important that no matter what size or shape you are, you can find styles to suit you and make you look and feel amazing. Julian often has a "one size fits all" to suit healthy women, offering a security that works.
He keeps in mind to cover arms, bums, and tummies and ensures you can wear a bra.
4. Finding Yourself
A lot of clients come in and are lost. They have been putting children before themselves for years (something I often witnessed as a stylist), and they don't know what size or styles suit them. Often they have a special occasion, where Julian will style them in outfits that they can have multiple purposes for, not just the night.
When you are comfortable in an outfit, not having to tug and pull at it to make it work, you will love the outfit and the woman wearing it. Comfort is essential and reflects in all of Julian's designs.
Today we had fun playing with a few styles. Here are a few items, see here how we played around with them.
Stay tuned for an article on how to wear your dress or a top in many different styles.
Julian and I chatted about how to put together an effortless style to be a yummy mummy, or a fabulous over 50, with a twist.
1. Look for versatility like above with investment pieces.
2. Stick to a style that suits you and your personality. (Learn this in "Your Ultimate Style" eBook here).
3. Wear simple designs, but look for a twist. Like stripes, or pants and jackets that have a point of difference.
4. Accessorise to create an outfit from a top and pants, or a dress.
5. Think out of the square and wear your clothes in different seasons. Play around and have fun with your clothes. Mix and match.
We have an article coming on how to wear a summer dress in the cooler months.
Do you love a VIP event? Especially when there is 40 - 60% off all items, includes champagne and canapes and a goodie bag worth over $150.
Join Julian at DEA Essendon on the 5th October for an evening of fun and fashion. Pop into one of the stores or contact Julian on Instagram to supply your mobile. You will receive a text to come in and collect your tickets the week before the event.
Also, Julian has kindly donated 5 x $20 vouchers for the first five people to tag @DEA and @cazincblog, or #DEA and #cazinc on their Instagram page.
Shoes are my all time fav's I wore around Italy from Mollini.
