How To Stay Young At Heart?
Having just celebrated my 50th birthday made me think how I feel younger now than what I did when I was 30. What I put it down to are knowledge and wisdom.
I now have the knowledge to eat what my body requires, exercise for health and not to lose weight, and after a kidney scare a few years ago, I drink gallons of water. Oh, and a few wines in between. We need to enjoy life.
I also have the wisdom not to judge others. Everyone has a story, so with the understanding has come acceptance.
Knowledge and wisdom have lead me to be happy! Because I don't sweat the small stuff anymore, I have learnt life goes too fast and so I often remind myself to lighten up and have fun where-ever I can.
Being youthful is a state of mind. Life isn’t a dress rehearsal; this is it so make it great and enjoyable. I think of life as one big adventure, always exploring, discovering and looking. Being open to new things and new ways of thinking and feeling.
Don’t get caught in a rut. Always be prepared to change or experiment. Learn to change the way you look, makeup, clothes and hairstyles (although how fabulous were we in the 80’s, the pink eye shadow, big hair and big clothes!) and staying modern is always a great “pick me up”.
Exercise is a wonderful way to stay looking and feeling young. A quick brisk 5-minute walk outdoors is an excellent way to stimulate your brain and perk you up as the body’s endorphins; the natural mood-boosting chemicals flow into the bloodstream. As more oxygen races around your body, more collagen is produced, which gives your skin a better texture and youthful glow.
Here are some of my ways of staying young at heart:
Keep your mind active.
Go dancing – Music has an incredible energy to lift your mood,
Laugh until it hurts.
Do something for yourself at least once a day.
Watch a “girly” movie and enjoy a good cry.
Have a great night out with friends.
Stay playful – smile like a child, be silly.
Looking younger is more than skin deep, it is a whole attitude.
Have a night of kissing your partner on the couch.
Sing loudly, especially while driving.
Have a play date with children. They are always fun.
Enjoy a glass of red by the fire.
Take time out to read a book you have had on your list.
Enjoy being youthful and have fun.
