Our Top 10 Slimming Style Tips
Feeling Muffin Topped?
We all know that a healthy diet and a dedicated fitness routine are essential, but there are times when we can be a little overindulgent, especially when we are hibernating during winter.
So if you are feeling a little “muffin topped” and need to look slimmer instantly, instead of rushing to the gym, use these style tricks to appear thinner and sleeker.
Instead of hiding your figure by wearing a tent, accent your best features and proportions with your clothes. It is time to show off your amazing curves, hide your figure challenges so that you can enjoy life.
1. Dark Colours
The number one slimming tip. Choose darker colours as the basis of your wardrobe, particularly when you have any figure challenges. Opt for colours such as black, navy, and charcoal grey. Please note: darker colours are only slimming if you have the right cut for your outfit. Keep reading.
Follow the celebrities and make shapewear your best friend. Why? Because it works to smooth you out, distribute any bulges, and they hold in your tummy.
Style note: if you have a special event, make sure you are used to wearing your shapewear as they are tight.
3. Focus On Your Assets.
Every one of us will have some incredible assets that we want to show. If your legs are gorgeous, wear a beautiful full knee length skirt. If you've great arms, wear sleeveless tops. Wear it with a blazer that cinches at your waist. You can also add a belt to pull the blazer in.
Learn about longer hemlines, which always create a taller and thinner appearance. Choose pants with longer lengths. Avoid Capri’s, or anything that cuts off at your calf (makes it higher, just below the knee, or longer to ankle length). Pants can create a slimmer appearance if not too tight, go for a looser look.
Select straight leg jeans in a dark wash that hit exactly at your ankle or an inch or two below to create an elongated look for your legs; especially when paired with dark heels, ankle boots or flats.
Note: Read "Your Ultimate Style" to learn which jeans suit your body shape.
6. The Ultimate Skirt
For an instant slimming look with skirts, a knee-length pencil skirt is the most universally flattering silhouette, as are fitted A-line skirts that hit right above the knee (not at the calf). Team with black opaque tights in winter for an extra slimming appearance.
Use accessories to draw attention to your face: scarves, earrings, etc. which gives the illusion of height to your appearance. Make sure you scale your accessories - from your handbag to your earrings - to your size. So if you are the petite frame, wear smaller accessories. If you are a larger frame, avoid little accessories, as they will be lost on you. Opt for chunkier items.
8. Bra Fitting
Book a professional bra fitting. Most women, over 80%, wear the wrong size bras. The wrong size bra can make you appear larger than a professionally fitted bra. Dressed in a bra with loose straps gives the appearance of sagging breasts. Give your breasts a lift, which will assist to smooth out your midriff area.
Opt for heels and lose the ankle strap.
We all know shoe heels add height, but they also improve your posture, assist with your core, and aid in the fall of your clothes.
Heels with ankle straps are in vogue, but they cut the length of your leg. So to elongate your legs, opt for no ankle strap, or one that crosses at the front of your foot. Another tip is to opt for nude shoes to create an illusion of length in your legs.
10. Be Confident
Stand tall with a great posture. Love you and your style. Enjoy all the moments, looking and feeling fabulous.
