What Is The Chick Flick Women Still Love To Talk About?
Women can talk about everything and anything. You name it. My mother and I can hold 3 conversations at once, and my poor husband has no chance of keeping up, but we sure can.
Men tend to talk about “safe” topics; work, finances, and of course sport. We love to chat about latest trends, dreams, reveal our insecurities, marriages, some women still love to talk about giving birth, menopause and the trials and tribulations of our health. Women can talk about travel, books, arts, movies, children, events, psychology, careers, food, coffee, cafés, restaurants, and the list goes on.
One topic women still love to talk about is sex, which was a major part of the reason Sex and the City was so popular amongst women, and completely loathed by men. The quickest way to clear a room full of men is to put on a re-run of the show and I promise you peace and quiet.
Men thought it was all over when Carrie came back from Paris, after being rescued by Big, but no! There were 2 movies to follow and while we were celebrating with our Cosmopolitans, and wearing our Manolo Blahnik shoes, men were heading for the hills.
The reason we are still talking about this "chick flick" is not only the sex. As Marie Claire stated in their article, there are still quotes relevant in 2017, the one liners between the friends were so funny, no wonder we still quote them today.
‘I’ve spent $40,000 on shoes and I have no place to live? I will literally be the old woman who lived in her shoes!’
‘Sexy is what I try to get them to see me as after I win them over with my personality.’
‘I think I have monogamy. I caught it from you people.’
‘I curse the day you were born!’
(How many times have we quoted this one?)
‘I know your friends just fine. Charlotte is the brunette, Miranda is the redhead, and Samantha is trouble.’ Mr Big
But the ultimate favourite amongst my friends is this quote from Samantha:
‘I feel the same way about being a bridesmaid as you feel about Botox. Painful and unnecessary.’
We laughed with the girls and we cried with the girls. Remember in the movie we were all emotionally drained when Carrie went on holidays after her marriage to Mr Big didn't go ahead. Then we had the classic line from Samantha at Miranda’s overgrown bikini line, “Jesus, honey? Wax much?”, but then when Charlotte had her "whoops" moment after drinking water we all fell apart laughing.
This show wasn't only about friendship, relationships and sex. There were real issues there we can relate to and still discuss.
When Samantha found out she has breast cancer
When in season 2 "There were no words left. We'd said them all", the night Carrie and Big broke up, a scene most women can't get through without tears.
The scene where Miranda assists Charlotte to admit she was failing as a mother. A conversation many of us mothers have had with friends.
But one of the things we still talk about today was the fashion. Fashion where everything was wrong, but looked right.
Patricia Field is a fashion designer and boutique-owner, but she hit fame as the costume designer and stylist on Sex and the City. She was responsible for crafting all of Carrie's iconic looks, and the styles, which suited their personalities, of all the girls. Patricia was also the stylist for The Devil Wears Prada.
We hope you enjoyed going back with some fun times with the girls of Sex and the City.
If you are a fun like us, we would love for you to share some of your favourite SATC moments, and what you still chat about with your girlfriends from the show.
Please feel free to share with your gorgeous girlfriends.
