10 Things You Didn't Know About Orgasms

10 Things You Didn't Know About Orgasms

"Sex is not all about orgasms" said no woman ever who enjoys sex.

"You can still have a great time without having one" said the man who didn't care.

The SATC Girls:

Sex can still be great without an orgasm.

That is such a crock of shit.

Carrie Bradshaw:
She has a point.

The gorgeous author, freelance writer and humorist, who turned into an accidental science journalist, Mary Roach, likes to ask the questions we all wonder about but are usually too polite to mention.

What happens after we die, anyway?  How fast do cadavers rot?  Can a corpse have an orgasm?

In her "Ted Talk" - Mary explains in her humours way the "10 Things You Didn't Know About Orgasms".  A subject we might like to laugh about, but also a subject we can always learn about.

I first found out about Mary through her books, which are excellent, (see below).  They are extremely funny, as is the the Ted Talk.

What to expect?

"A woman has an orgasm when she cleans her teeth and I can't understand why she changed to mouthwash.  You would think she would have excellent oral hygiene."

We all fell of our chairs laughing when Mary explained how The Danish National Committee for pig production (#7 below) created an instructional DVD on how to arouse a "sow" - female pig.  Why?  Because research shows that if a female pig has an orgasm while being inseminated, the farrowing rate, or number of pigs produced increased by 6%.  Don't worry, you will see the DVD, you don't have to purchase one!

So here are the 10 Things You Didn't Know About Orgasms.

1.) A fetus can masturbate in utero.
2.) You don't need genitals.
3.) You can have them when you're dead.
4.) They can cause bad breath.
5.) They can cure hiccups.
6.) Doctors once prescribed them for fertility.
7.) Pig farmers still do.
8.) Animals orgasm more than we think they do.
9.) There was an instrument developed in lab studies to study what happens inside a woman's vagina when she climaxes.
10.) Kinsey conducted, for lack of a better term, jerk-off in which he lined men up next to each other and had them ejaculate in order to study how far semen can shoot.

Mary's most recent book, Bonk, is a romp through the current landscape of gynecology, sex research and the adult novelty industry. her outrageous curiosity and insight on the most alluring scientific subject of all: sex. Can a person think herself to orgasm? Why doesn't Viagra help women-or, for that matter, pandas? Can a dead man get an erection? Is vaginal orgasm a myth? Mary Roach shows us how and why sexual arousal and orgasm-two of the most complex, delightful, and amazing scientific phenomena on earth-can be so hard to achieve and what science is doing to make the bedroom a more satisfying place.
