What Could Be The Most Dangerous Show On Netflix?

What Could Be The Most Dangerous Show On Netflix?

As a mother of 4 children, (well, some are young adults now), suicide has been one topic of worry for me, and a concern for all parents.

According to ABC news, suicide rates among young Australians were at their highest levels in 2016, despite a range of prevention strategies and government investigation.

The Netflix show everyone is talking about, and I know 2 of my older children have viewed. 13 Reasons Why is an American television series based on the 2007 novel by Jay Asher and adapted by Brian Yorkey for Netflix.  The show revolves around a student who kills herself after a series of culminating failures, brought on by select individuals within their school.

The Saturday Telegraph states that experts were being swamped with calls from anxious parents and teachers, with children as young as 11 have watched the show and become “distressed and withdrawn” after viewing.

Mental health advocates have warned that the show glamorizes self-harm, and could lead to an outbreak of teenage suicides, or is this show creating awareness of teenage suicide, and promoting children to speak up, and there could be someone there to help?

We would like to start a forum, with comments below on your thoughts on the show.  Have or will you be watching it?  What are your thoughts?

As parents, or aunts, uncles, or grandparents, we all have a role in raising our children.  Maybe we could make a difference to someone with this article and comments.
