A Perfect Autumn Shiraz For Under $20.00.
Kilakanoon winery, was founded in 1997, when proprietor Kevin Mitchell, hailed from a long line of wine grape growers, purchased a magnificent property in the Clare Valley, South Australia, and he has been producing award winning wines ever since.
If visiting the Clare Valley, call into their cosy cellar door, which is housed in the property's original stone farmhouse, which was built back in the 1860's
Kilikanoon has been recognised both in Australia and internationally, receiving high praise from some of the world's most respected wine critics. The 2002 Clare Valley Wine Show chaired by prominent Australian wine writer and judge, Huon Hooke, propelled Kilikanoon into the spotlight, winning 6 of the 7 trophies awarded. Going from strength to strength, the Oracle Shiraz has twice won 'Best Shiraz' at International wine shows, while more recently, James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion named Kilikanoon 'Winery of the Year' in 2013. In 2014, Kevin Mitchell was inducted into the inaugural Clare Valley Hall of Fame as Winemaker of the Year.
Their Killerman's Run Collection is masterfully composed from Kilikanoon's different vineyard sites and sub regions, delivering an elegant and approachable style.
One that our trusty wine expert, Hunter, tried recently was the 2015 Killerman's Run Shiraz 2015 - which is currently priced at $19.99 per bottle at Dan Murphy's.
The wine has a concentrated aromas of dark berry fruit lift from the glass, followed by a super smooth, perfectly balanced, fruit driven palate.
The Kilikanoon winemaker's skill is clearly on show here. Perfectly integrated tannins and beautiful fruit, all in balance to produce a silky smooth finished product .
This wine will happily age for six to ten years, and is perfect for our cooler autumn weather.
