Who Is The Girl Who Decided To Go For It?
There is a saying in life, “Do what you love and you will never work another day”.
Two years ago, I sat in a rather dull presentation at my daughter’s school. It was full of the usual blah, until this energetic, gorgeous girl, who was house captain, took to the stage and filled the whole audience with laughter.
Ellen Saundry has loved baking cakes since she was little. She loved creating and decorating, so after completing year 12 a couple of years ago, Ellen decided to start up her own cake business, so “Cakes By Ellen” was born.
Ellen bakes cakes from home, which she does while studying a bachelor of communication at university, and is baking 4 – 5 cakes per week, which is huge when you see the love and effort she puts into them. When you see Ellen's video's on social media, you will be inspired as to the work involved to create these beautiful cakes.
Amazingly, Ellen is self-taught, by watching YouTube videos and looking at Instagram photos, then she puts her creative mind to work to add her own creativity to her cake designs. What I love is that Ellen sources local products from the Essendon area, and purchases ingredients from stores, such as Suzie Q.
Interviewing this 19 year old, I was inspired by her passion, creativity and joy for making delicious (I know, she made one for us last year) and visually beautiful cakes. By following her passion, she makes so many people happy, including herself.
As “Cakes By Ellen” keeps growing, she will keep an open mind, go with the flow and maybe one day open her own shop.
I asked Ellen what advice she has for anyone who wants to follow their dreams and do what they loved.
Her advice was, “Just make a start. It will always grow and go somewhere if it is what you love and you have the right support around you.”
We can all learn from this energetic, gorgeous young woman. I hope you enjoyed reading about Ellen, and are inspired to go forth and start to do what you love.
