Our Weekend Escape - Lake House, Daylesford
Lake House, ranked the number one hotel in Daylesford, 80 min from Melbourne is the ultimate, romantic weekend escape.
Simon and I were invited to a local wedding on the Saturday night, so we booked a weekend package, which included a 3-course meal on the Friday night, and breakfast both mornings at the 2 hatted chef restaurant.
The Lake House is not only a luxury hotel and restaurant, but it is a spa and cooking school, which overlooks the lake with a beautiful view of nature, and the gardens are divine.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by the gorgeous Ed, who took charge of our bags, and showed us around our room, and told us the many items available, including bush walking along the lake. The welcome we received was warm and genuine, and all the staff were absolutely on point throughout our stay.
When dining at the restaurant, there is a serene view, with the local kookaburras coming to say hello. If the weather permits, it is extremely tranquil to sit outside and listen to the wildlife.
Dinner in the restaurant is warm, inviting, dimly lit, quiet and romantic. Beautiful for a couple. The French enticed menu changes regularly, as the ingredients are sourced from seasonal produce, sourced regionally.
Our Friday night dinner commenced with freshly baked bread, with crispy outer crust, and soft, in the centre. We decided to enjoy seafood for dinner, followed by the most delectable French cheese. Food was amazing and presentation could not be faulted! Our waiter for the evening was a lovely French gentlemen, who knew his wines, so our meal was accompanied by beautiful French champagne, and a gorgeous riesling from the area, which he selected for us.
Saturday morning, after a beautiful breakfast, we took off for a stroll along the shopping strip in Daylesford. First stop was coffee, which is a must stop at the amazing Larder Café. Their Supreme coffee is worth waiting until after breakfast for!
The strip includes many art, French inspired, clothing and kitchen accessory shops. Cookbooks and sunglasses are like shoes, you can’t have too many – hence I purchased a couple. When a shop sells Nick Campbell sunglasses, and beautiful books, a girl just can’t walk away.
All I can say, if you are after some down time, in an atmosphere that is indulgent, comfortable, luxurious and welcoming, it is worth a visit to Daylesford to stay at the Lake House.
