How To Become A Mompreneur?
For seventeen years, Sonya and Sacha have been working together. These beautiful mothers have built an enormous empire together, inspired many teenagers, built fame with their TV and radio programs, and now have written a best-seller book.
I spoke to one half of the dynamic duo, gorgeous and funny Sacha, who talked to me about how they met. I am sure you will not only be inspired by her story but also will love her down to earth attitude. I walked out of her home with face ache! I haven't met Sonya as yet, but watching them on TV and listening to their radio program, I feel like she is a friend.
Sonya has initially been the manager of The Ivy nightclub. Working there and seeing many teenagers fall into trouble with alcohol and drugs, including drink spiking, conflict, and fights, inspired her to educate teens on being safe in the nightclubs. The do’s and don’ts of what to do when clubbing. Teaching them to come and have a good time, but you are going so hard you are not going to make next week.
Sonya was real when teaching this at schools. She didn’t want the kids to drink milk and stay home with your parents but to think about their actions and do it safely.
Sacha, on the other hand, started own business at 18, manufacturing aromatherapy products. She had no idea, took risks, made lots of money and lost lots of money. She did this because my mum got her involved.
When she finally paid back her debts, she reflected on what she wanted.
Sacha started a journey of self-development. She read her first self-development book at 13. “Mum and I would listen to tapes, Tony Robbins before he was famous at age 7 or 8, and Dr. Murray Banks.”
During her reflection, Sacha asked herself “what do I know?” She knew how to ask the question of “what do I want in my life, ” and I could ask this of others. Most adults don’t know how to ask this question and thought it a gift she could ask this question of herself at the age of 25, but wanted kids to ask this to themselves at 15.
So, Sacha too developed a program for schools.
Both Sonya and Sacha started their separate businesses the same month.
Sonya – A Whole New World - Seminars in schools about drugs and alcohol and safe partying.
Sacha – The Motivational Company - About finding the career of your dreams, self-esteem, bullying, cyberbullying, teamwork, leadership and body image.
After a year, a mutual friend introduced the girls, as they both had weird jobs and she thought they needed to meet.
Sacha went to an event Sonya was running to meet her, and instantly recognized Sonya because she was the door bitch at the club she went to all the time. The funny part was that Sonya would make Sacha get to the back of the line, or not let her in! “It’s members only night!!” and Sacha wasn’t a member.
When Sonya and Sacha finally met, instantly Sacha asked “will you be my friend,” which is weird at their age, according to Sacha, but it worked. The next day they spoke on the phone for four hours, and the rest is history.
What I love about Sonya and Sacha is that they took what they have learned from life experiences, their passions, and combined them into a program for schools 17 years ago. From this they have traveled every state and territory in Australia, they visit about 100 schools each per year, they developed the Australian Teen Expo, Australia’s most significant educational event. Sonya and Sacha TV show, aimed at parents, channel 31, Wednesday and Friday in Victoria, Monday’s and Tuesdays in Perth. Radio show – Wednesday’s 11 – 1 pm on 88.3 Southern FM, and they have their fantastic book, the official ambassadors for the women entrepreneurship day in the united nations.
They also have between them five children, Sonya 3 and Sacha 2.
They also find time to be regular writers for Cazinc blog. Read their parenting articles in our Wellbeing section here.
OMG, these mothers wore me out just speaking about all this.
The message we all wanted to share with you today is follow your hearts, not your heads. Don’t let anyone bully you into not doing what you love.
Everyone needs their path, do your dance. Do your own thing. Whether you have a degree or not (Sacha’s husband is a Harvard education guy, with 4 degrees, which has got him to where he is) and we recommend for kids to do a further education in what they love.
If you are a mum returning to the workforce, discover your passion. What keeps you up at night, what interests you, what floats your boat???
"You can be creative; you can be anything you put your mind too," said Sacha. By the way, Sacha was making sandwiches for her 4-year-old son, Link at the same time as doing this interview. Link didn’t want it cut, no butter, no nothing, as this floats his boat.
If you don’t know what “floats your boat,” you need to listen to your heart and not your head. Everyone has got it. There is a common theme throughout your life, wake up and notice what it is that you like, what interests you, then take massive actions.
