Give Your Partner A Gift Of Love This Christmas?
Sometimes the most romantic gifts are those made with love, not money. Over the years, Simon and I have given each other beautiful "unbought" presents, which were more meaningful than the bought ones. I have many stones around our home that Simon has carefully selected for me on walks along the beach or in nature. They mean the world to me as I know Simon took the time out to pick them.
"Never get tired of doing little things for your partner. Sometimes those little things occupy the biggest part of their heart." - Happy Wives Club
We also have boxes of notes, letters, cards we have given each other over our 25 years together.
And here we share with you fifteen of our ways we love to give to each other.
Put together one of those old-fashioned picnics. A basket full of their favourite goodies, a bouquet of flowers, wine or champagne, and chocolates? Take your love to their ideal beach or park, spread the blanket, and relax to enjoy each other’s company.
2. Recreate a special day
Whether it’s the day that you met, the day you proposed, or some other day in between. Recreate that special day with a scent or a flower or a song that reminds your special someone why they fell in love with you.
3. Music “playlist”
Nothing makes us more nostalgic than hearing our favourite song. Make your gift extra special by putting together a playlist of sentimental favourites.
(Although I must admit Simon couldn't believe I put Kylie Minogue on his!!!).
4. Love letter
Write a letter, spray it with your favourite perfume or aftershave, and post it in the mail or leave on their pillow. They are sure to hold on to it forever.
Or place a little note on the pillow or on the car window. They will love it.
5. Bake a cake
Bake your love a cake. Bake a big moist double layered cake with waves of chocolate frosting on top. You’re sure to be the recipient of lots of sweet kisses in return!
6. Personalised cheese board
Add a personal message to your wooden cheese board and enjoy evenings together with a beautiful cheese platter with your personal touch.
We have black boards we use as cheese platters that we write a special message with chalk. So easy to do and much loved to receive.
7. Make a time capsule
It is easy to lose track of time that you’ve spent together; to remember how you looked or felt and what used to be significant. Make a time capsule together and add to it to a special occasion, such as Christmas or your anniversary. Each year, take the time to look back and appreciate your time together.
Time capsules can include photos and videos of special occasions, like your wedding day.
8. Work survival kit
A busy workday means most of us rarely get a chance to speak to our partner during the day. Send them off with a work survival kit that includes some soothing tea, a favourite snack and a love note. They will know how much they’re loved even if they don’t get a chance to speak to you.
The guys at Simon's work used to laugh at his little notes attached to his esky until they told their wives that they wanted notes too!
9. Hand-knitted scarf
Knitting is easy and cool again, so knit a hand-knitted scarf to say how devoted you are. You would have to be, to spend the time to knit them something to keep warm and think of you while wearing it. (note: guys make the best knitters!).
10. Write a poem
It seems like such a simple thing, but writing poetry can be arduous work. Don’t go for “roses are red, violets are blue…” Write something from your heart, and you will be rewarded with theirs.
Most of us save little mementoes from concerts, and shows, travels abroad. Fill a scrapbook with tickets, maps and receipts of all the times and places you’ve experienced and take a walk down memory lane.
12. Breakfast in bed
This is one of those treats that no one gets enough of. Surprise your partner with some French toast, freshly roasted coffee and fresh berries for a great start to your day.
13. Neck or Foot Massage
Who doesn't love their neck or feet massaged? A great gift that will leave them feeling calm and relaxed.
14. Favourite old movie
You can’t go past the old romantics to make a great impression. Sit back and enjoy some Christmas romantic films together. Such as Love Actually or The Notebook.
15. Put together a cookbook
Place all your favourite meals together in a book.
You can enjoy a journey of tastes you enjoyed together and then enjoy making the recipes together in the kitchen. You know what this leads to!
You can make these promises and put them in a card for Christmas, or hang them on the tree. So many ideas when you take the time to think about them. This shows you are thinking of your partner and they love that you are.
Thank you my gorgeous guy, Simon for helping me put together this article. I love you and I love us.
