Prince Harry, From The "Mummy" Letter To His Engagement

Yesterday the official engagement announcement of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle sent messages of joy from around the world.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have revealed they got engaged during a "standard typical night" cooking roast chicken at home, with the Royal saying he believes his late mother, Diana, would be "jumping up and down," according to ABC news.

The pair met on a blind date set up by a mutual friend and got to know each other while camping under the stars in Botswana.

For over 30 years we have watched loveable, cheeky and gorgeous Harry grow into the good-looking young man he is today.  

We are all thrilled here to hear the announcement of his engagement and we are looking forward to another memorable royal wedding.

I loved Harry at his brother Prince William's wedding when he turned around the moment Kate arrived and whispered something loving to his brother about how beautiful his bride looked.  These two boys, who we have watched grow into handsome men, still have the down to earth nature and wit of their mother.

And Harry has a nod to his mother included in the ring by using diamonds from her jewelry collection and yellow gold, which was Diana's favourite.  Prince Harry's way of making sure "she is with us on this crazy journey together."

According to Kensington Palace, Prince Harry designed the ring himself. Unlike Prince William, who chose a family heirloom, Prince Harry picked a new stone to be the showpiece diamond on Markle’s ring.

Who else remembers the 6th September 1997, the funeral of Princess Diana, with the "Mummy" card on top of the coffin, like it was yesterday?

I have goosebumps thinking of this day, over 20 years ago. The note from 12-year-old Prince Harry to his mother still brings a tear to my eyes.  

The look from Prince William to his brother in this image says it all.  The bond of the boys is strong, even today.

Remembering these two young boys having to walk behind their mothers coffin is still heartbreaking.  

20 years on I am sure Diana is looking down at her beautiful boys as a proud and loving mother, as she always was.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle say the proposal happened on a "cosy night" when they were "just roasting a chicken." As part of their first interview since announcing their royal engagement, the couple also discussed their long-distance romance, their different backgrounds, and what it was like for Markle to meet the Queen and her corgis.
