How Does Acupuncture Work?
By Dr. Sandie Griffiths
What acupuncture does is improve the flow of oxygen, nutrients and blood through the blood vessel system to nourish every cell of our body.
Your body will not heal without proper blood flow.
Acupuncture causes your blood vessels to dilate and increases blood flow to specific areas of the body to relieve pain, improve organ function and prevent aging (which is what we love)!
It also works by stimulating the nervous system by activating nociceptor, sensory nerves and proprioceptor fibers that travel from the skin to the spine and into the brain.
Acupuncture improves the nerve signal to your brain and forces it to release opioids (natural painkillers) to shut off the pain signal and eliminate your pain.
Acupuncture works by treating the 5 main factors that influence your health:
1 The flow of oxygen in your body
2 The flow of blood in your body
3 The health of your blood vessels
4 The health of your organs
5 The health of your nervous system
To sum up, acupuncture stimulates the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
The acupuncture method we use at Natural Wellness Albert Park strengthens the proprioceptive signal to the mid-brain, which actualizes the proper restorative response via the spinal processing system of the Central Nervous System. This process of descending control occurs within seconds to inhibit pain signals and reinstate increased levels of blood flow, oxygen and repair factors to resolve the affected tissues.
