Thinking Of A Hair Colour Change To Platinum?

Thinking Of A Hair Colour Change To Platinum?

Kim Kardashian West is not one to sit back and be boring.  After her drastic bob cut, she is now making headlines by going platinum blonde.

But going platinum blonde is a huge commitment.  And if you have naturally dark hair, actually getting it to an icy blonde shade is a commitment to a full day sitting in a salon chair.

If you have the nerve to follow the Mother Of Dragons hair color trend, there are six things you need to consider.

1. Book A Pre Consultation

Rather than making an appointment, it is a great idea to book a consultation with your stylist a week or two before.  A pre-consultation is so your stylist knows how much time you will need.  It took over 5 hours for Kim's hair, thus being prepared for time and money, the cost of the colour and most importantly, home hair maintenance.

2. Will Your Hair Cope?

A great question to ask yourself.  Kim's hair was in the best condition before her consultation.  You need to be honest and consider the health of your hair.  There is nothing worse than damaged hair after colour; it takes forever to repair.

An option is to wait until your hair is ready for the change.  It is better than it all falling out.

3. Colour V's Length

Often your hair is so damaged after a drastic change that you need to cut off the luscious locks you have been growing "forever."  I have seen this time after time as a stylist where women have had to cut their hair due to color damage severely.

4. Home Maintenance

Like having great skin, if you want beautiful happy and healthy hair, you need to maintain at home.  Making a drastic change to your colour, such as platinum blonde is like going out in the full sun to your skin, without SPF.

As we stated in "Olaplex v's Hair Treatments" - Kim is a strong advocate for Olaplex and sleeps in the product.  To be real, Kim and other celebrities have access to products and stylists 24/7, and they can afford the time and money.

5. Not Everything Is As It Seems

We see Kim and co everywhere.  In the magazines, Instagram and other social media platforms.  Their images are always professional and touched up.  So the photos you may be liking may not be real as they appear.

6. Be Real

Going platinum blonde is not going to make you look like Kim KW.  Be real about you and learn to love who you are before going and doing something as drastic as changing your hair colour.  Could you invest the money into healthy food, skin health products or a gym membership?  Shining from the inside is often more critical than radiating from the outside.

According to Instyle Magazine:

To eliminate as much damage as possible, the first round of Kardashian’s hair colour took a whopping 12 hours. But that wasn’t the end of it.

Be prepared for your hair to turn yellow.

Be prepared for your hair to turn yellow.

"The last time I went platinum, a few years back, I dyed it in one sitting and never gave it the proper time, so this time I sat there 12 hours straight. Then, we did another 5-hour session. In the end, SO worth it.”

On top of that 17 hours, Kardashian said she had to spend a week wearing yellow hair while adding Olaplex to it and conditioning it. Then, they toned the hair and lifted it to her current colour.
